SafeSpace: crowdsourced safety

Police killings and other incidents of brutality have led to fear, distrust, and insecurity, especially for communities of color. SafeSpace keeps people safe while tracking law enforcement officers’ conduct in real time.

When you are pulled over, stopped as a pedestrian, or visited by law enforcement at your home, hold down the red button to notify allies — both in the area and in your contacts. The system sends out a call, and you will be notified when an ally is responding, on the way, and ready to observe and/or record the interaction.

After the incident, fill out a safety check survey to describe your experience and the officer’s conduct, and upvote positive interactions to recognize law enforcement officers who are doing the right thing.

SafeSpace is designed not only to keep people safe immediately, but also to track police conduct and relationships with the community over time. Survey data from each interaction is collected to show interactions with law enforcement officers by race, gender, age, and police department.
